Dr. Bruno Fong Martinez works as a Concrete Materials Specialist at Baker Construction. He previously worked as a Concrete Engineer at Kiewit, where he developed into a leading expert in the fields of service life and durability. Starting in 2026, Bruno now serves as the Treasurer for the Rocky Mountain ACI Chapter.

Bruno earned his civil engineering PhD with a focus on concrete durability from The University of Texas at Austin in 2020. Since then, Bruno has built a strong industry network by engaging with numerous professionals, technical experts, and academics. He is actively involved in ACI and ASTM technical committees, highlighting important discrepancies between theory and practice and contributing to the development of industry standards.

Bruno provides a unique perspective on the concrete industry by working in a technical role for a contractor. His academic background enables him to push the envelope in real projects, while his committee involvement allows him to provide valuable feedback drawn from real projects. Bruno bridges engineering theory with practical, jobsite-driven execution.

As a Concrete Materials Specialist at Baker, Bruno uses his technical background to improve concrete operations with an emphasis on practicality. He regularly develops and reviews technical specifications, optimizes concrete mixture designs, troubleshoots field issues, participates in risk assessments, develops protocols for durability, and performs service life analyses.

Bruno has ample research and presentation experience and hopes to teach the world the difference between concrete and cement.
